The High Priestess – Divine Wisdom & Hidden Truths
The High Priestess – Divine Wisdom & Hidden Truths
What if I told you that some of the deepest truths in scripture were never meant to be understood at first glance? That, like The High Priestess in Tarot, divine wisdom has always been hidden—waiting for those willing to seek it?
I’ve come to realize that faith and intuition work the same way. They aren’t always loud or obvious. Sometimes, they are quiet, subtle, almost hidden beneath the surface—waiting for us to trust them. But trusting that deeper knowing? That hasn’t always come easy for me. My mental health, my struggles with fear, my doubts about whether I could even trust myself—it has all shaped how I understand divine wisdom today.
So, today, I want to talk about The High Priestess—how her energy is reflected in scripture, how divine wisdom comes in ways we least expect, and what it really means to trust our intuition. Because sometimes, God isn’t the booming voice. Sometimes, He’s the whisper we’ve been too afraid to believe.
Understanding The High Priestess
The High Priestess in Tarot represents hidden knowledge, spiritual wisdom, and inner knowing. She sits between two pillars, balancing logic and intuition, holding a book of secrets, reminding us that some truths must be discovered, not simply given.
When I first started learning Tarot, I didn’t realize how much of The High Priestess energy was already in the Bible. Jesus Himself spoke in parables—hidden lessons that required faith and deeper understanding. Wisdom was often held by the overlooked—women, prophets, those on the margins. And divine truth? It was always revealed in layers.
One of the most powerful examples of The High Priestess energy in scripture is Mary, the mother of Jesus. She was chosen to carry something sacred, something beyond human comprehension. And yet, she trusted. She held divine wisdom within her before the world could even recognize it.
But Mary wasn’t the only one who embodied this energy. Ruth, John the Baptist, and even Jesus Himself in the wilderness all show us what it means to trust in divine wisdom.
Biblical Examples of The High Priestess
Ruth – Trusting the Unknown
Ruth’s story is a perfect example of The High Priestess energy at work. In the book of Ruth (Ruth 1:16-17), she chooses to leave behind her homeland, her people, and everything familiar to follow her mother-in-law Naomi.
She had no guarantees. No roadmap. No idea how things would turn out. But something inside her knew she was meant to take that path. And because she trusted that wisdom, she found herself woven into the lineage of King David—and ultimately, Jesus Himself.
That’s what The High Priestess teaches us: Sometimes, we have to trust the unknown before we see where it leads.
John the Baptist – Divine Knowledge Beyond Society’s Understanding
John the Baptist is another incredible example of The High Priestess energy.
He lived in isolation, dressed in camel’s hair, and ate locusts and wild honey (Matthew 3:1-4). He preached a message that most people couldn’t understand at the time—that the Messiah was coming, that things were about to change. He was mocked, dismissed, seen as ‘too much.’
But like The High Priestess, John held wisdom that others weren’t ready to receive yet. He knew something beyond what was immediately seen, and he stayed true to that knowing—even when it made him an outcast.
Sometimes, embracing divine wisdom means standing alone in what you know to be true, even when the world doesn’t see it yet.
Jesus in the Wilderness – Inner Knowing vs. External Temptation
And then, there’s Jesus in the wilderness.
For 40 days and 40 nights, He fasted, isolated in the desert (Matthew 4:1-11). Satan came to tempt Him, offering Him food, power, and a way out. But Jesus resisted—not because He had physical proof that everything would work out, but because He trusted in what He knew was true.
That’s The High Priestess in action. Standing firm in divine wisdom, despite external illusions. Knowing that not everything is as it seems. Choosing the deeper truth over temporary relief.
My Struggle with Trusting Intuition
Now, I’ll be honest—trusting my own intuition has not been easy for me.
Like I’ve shared before, there was a time when I couldn’t even tell if I could hear God clearly. My mental health struggles made it impossible to distinguish between fear and intuition. I was in a fog, desperate to know what was real, but too afraid to trust my own inner voice.
I had to ask myself: If I couldn’t even trust my own mind, how could I ever hear God clearly again? That’s what led me to Tarot—not as a way to control my future, but as a way to find my own voice again.
It took me looking up the actual definition of intuition for something to click. I came across a phrase that said something like ‘an ultimate knowing’—and suddenly, I understood.
I used to describe my mental health episodes as if there were two versions of me: Normal Madison and ‘Crazy’ Madison. When my OCD was at its worst, I felt like I was split between logic and panic. Normal Madison always knew what was real, but in the moment, the fear was so powerful that it drowned out that knowing. It wasn’t until later, when the episode passed, that I could see clearly again.
And then it hit me: My true intuition was never the loud, overwhelming fear. It was always the quiet knowing underneath it. The one that had been there all along, even when I didn’t trust it. That realization changed everything.
Faith, Fear & Discernment
I won’t lie to you—I still struggle with embodying my High Priestess energy. I doubt myself. I get caught in fear. I hesitate to fully trust what I know deep down.
But maybe that’s exactly why this podcast matters. Maybe that’s why I feel so strongly about sharing this journey. Because just like with The Fool’s Journey, this is me stepping into The High Priestess energy—even when I don’t feel ready.
For anyone struggling to trust their own inner voice, here’s what I’ve learned:
- True intuition is not fear. Fear is reactive. Intuition is steady.
- God will never speak to you in a way that makes you feel unworthy. If the voice you’re hearing is rooted in shame, it’s not Him.
- You already know more than you think you do. Sometimes, we just have to clear out the noise to hear it.
Closing Thoughts
So here’s my question to you: Where is God trying to reveal wisdom in your life right now?
Is there something pulling at your intuition, but fear is keeping you from trusting it? Is there a deeper truth waiting for you, just beyond the surface?
The High Priestess reminds us that faith and wisdom go hand in hand. We don’t have to have all the answers. We just have to trust that they will come when we’re ready.
And next time? We’re diving into The Tower—the moment when everything falls apart, and why destruction is sometimes necessary for transformation.
But until then, trust the whisper. Trust the knowing. Because God’s wisdom is already within you.
